Dr. David Buckley is the Director of Technical Consulting for the Retail, Food Service, and Hospitality sectors within Diversey North America. David’s team is responsible for industry engagement and science-based consulting with customers on a wide range of areas, such as food safety, sanitation, and infection prevention and control programs. This includes customer training, field trials, and management of Diversey-funded external research. David’s team also has internal responsibilities to support product strategy and management, provide internal science-based training, and develop technical reviews.

 

Before arriving at Diversey in January 2020, David spent most of his childhood in The Netherlands before repatriating to North Carolina in 2007 to attend East Carolina University. It’s there that David earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry and commissioned as an Officer in the Army National Guard in 2011.

 

After this, he worked as a clinical laboratory technician at AvuTox before starting his doctorate in microbiology at Clemson University. David studied the recovery, survival, and inactivation of noroviruses on soft surfaces. During this time, David was also visiting scientist with Procter and Gamble where he worked on evaluating cleaning processes and effectiveness of cleanliness indicators.

 

After earning his doctorate in 2017, David joined The United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service as a research microbiologist. His focus was the investigation of a novel biobased chlorine dioxide gas packaging system and other intervention technologies to improve produce safety against Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli O157:H7, and hepatitis A virus.

 

David currently resides in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Anna, and daughter, Lucy. His hobbies include traveling, golf, hiking, and watching college football; however, most of his free time is still dedicated to the Army National Guard where he is the Unit Commander for a health clinic that provides health service support to Service Members across North Carolina.
